There are many different approaches to breaking down a Rock / priority or objective for great execution. The approach with this Rock Planner is to identify obstacles, then come up with strategies for each obstacles and turn those strategies into TODO items.

Obstacles that are in the way of getting the end-result are turned into strategies. Strategies are transformed into TODOs.

Open the excel sheet and start planning. Here are the steps to work with the excel sheet

ROCK PLANNING SHEET STEPS

  1. Enter the SMART Rock. Due date is normally future date / session date or a date sooner that the future date if the Rock must be completed on a specific date.

  2. What does it look like when it is done? This is a more detailed description of the Rock when it is done and helps to answer the questions that follow.

  3. What are all the obstacles? Brainstorm a list of all the obstacles that are in the way of getting the result right now.

  4. Once you are done listing all the obstacles, think about possible strategies to overcome each obstacle. This become your major moves to overcome all obstacles – your high level plan.
